On the 3rd of March 2022, Incubeta ZA hosted an insightful and interactive webinar: ‘The Growing Role of Data in Retail’. Joined by Google’s Retail Industry Manager Pranav Prakash, and Charles Nzimande, Digital Platforms Specialist at ZA retail chain, Pepkor – we discussed how local brands are evolving their business approach to incorporate the use of data in their decision making and overall business strategy and growth.

Jade Arenstein, Incubeta’s Global Service Lead: Analytics, Data and BI kicked off the event with an introduction to the topic; addressing the changes in online shopping behaviour in South Africa since the pandemic and how this has affected the local retail landscape. She also shared her views on how to maintain retail performance in a privacy-first era and how to harness the power of data in your retail strategy for 2022 and beyond – given the post pandemic environment.
Following Jade, Pranav joined us to unpack the state of retail in 2022. He shared consumer and industry insights that reflect the state of the retail industry globally, and the implications these have for businesses. Concluding his presentation by highlighting key local trends that are prominent in the South African market, Pranav gave examples of strategies that local brands are leveraging to adapt to consumer behaviour changes and confidently cater to the massive ecommerce and omnichannel growth opportunities in the region.
We were thrilled to be joined by Charles Nzimande from Pepkor, one of Incubeta’s long standing clients. In his presentation, Charles touched on Pepkor’s data ambitions this year to activate digital marketing best practices throughout the Pepkor group by successfully implementing unified Ad-Mar Tech Solutions such as GMP (Google Marketing Platform). Charles echoed the previous two speakers on the importance of implementing an omni channel strategy as an integral part of your digital marketing strategy and highlighted key points on why this integration is so important, not only for Pepkor but South African retailers as a whole.
